MPs call for energy doorstep mis-selling compensation

Earlier today, the BBC reported that an “influential group of MPs” said that energy companies “should compensate customers who have been mis-sold gas and electricity deals on the doorstep”. This news comes as the Energy and Climate Change Committee releases its finding in a new report on Ofgem’s Retail Market Review.

Further, the BBC reports that the Committee said “the problem of such mis-selling should have been dealt with years ago”, while industry body Energy UK said the “rules regarding sales had been toughened”.

The Committee was informed that up to 40% of those who switched suppliers on the doorstep did not benefit, and that “vulnerable customers were particularly targeted in this way”.

Tim Yeo, Chair of the Energy and Climate Change Committee, commented that energy firms should stop their “Del Boy” sales tricks.
